Hand carved fish-shaped spoon. Our mini spoon are so popular we decided to supersize them. The size is great for sitting into small pots, such as spice or sugar pots. In Ancient African culture, fish are known to symbolise creativity, fertility, and a new phase in your life. Gift this spoon to a loved one, or collect it for yourself to build a traditional, rustic style in your kitchen.  Use them for serving your favourite jam or honey as well.  The Swahili word for fish is 'Samaki'

The contemporary wooden products are hand carved in a Nairobi workshop run by one of the founders of the popular Maasai Market in Westlands, Zephania.

These items are made from Wild Olive wood that is all sustainably sourced from Zephania’s own plantations in his hometown, Kissi, where he continually re-plants trees.

As these items are hand carved sizes can vary slightly.

Olive wood has an excellent reputation for being harder and less porous than other woods. We recommend hand washing your wooden utensils with a mild detergent and warm water. Avoid boiling water and dishwashers as high temperatures may cause the wood to expand and split. Always towel dry after washing to prevent moisture cracks.

The same measures apply to wooden utensils with horn or bone accents.

Treat them once a month with a food safe mineral oil (we like to use olive oil). Simply rub in a small amount with a soft cloth to condition the wood and restore its warm, polished look.
