On November 3rd at 12 pm, Columbia Road will be celebrating their very own Day of the Dead outdoor festival!
Join us to honour the passing of loved ones through joyful celebration and floral arrangements that represent the transience of life. This special day has been celebrated for thousands of years and is based upon the Pre-Columbian cycle of life and death, where the spirits of ancestors return for festivities. Years ago, many believed that the boundary between the world of the living and the world of the dead allowed those who have passed to move easily between the two. As a result, people gathered around large feasts, dressed in vibrant costumes.
This Saturday, watch the people and shops of Columbia Road come together to celebrate the history of the Day of the Dead. The street will fill with foliage and face paint, dispersed amongst art, story telling, and a Mariachi band! Don’t miss out!
