Soapstone is a tactile, marble-like stone, quarried and carved in Kisii, Kenya. Being a natural material, every piece varies slightly in colour and pattern. Who made your soapstone decoration?

Hand carved and hand painted by the Tabaka Youth Self Help Group, a collective of soapstone artisans based in Tabaka, South West Kenya, founded in 1996 and led today by Bonnie. The group carves each piece from soapstone quarried locally, continuing a craft the region has been known for over generations.
