ARTHOUSE Unlimited is a collective of artists living with complex epilepsy and learning disabilities and difficulties who require different levels of support. The artists work alongside instructors in their studio in Godalming to create artworks which are developed into beautiful products for sale. Offering a sense of purpose lies at the heart of ARTHOUSE Unlimited’s philosophy as well as their core belief that feeling truly respected improves health and well-being. They aim to challenge perceptions and to create better acceptance and inclusion for all people living with disabilities.
All the artwork you see featured on ARTHOUSE Unlimited’s products start life in the ARTHOUSE studio on Godalming High Street. Sessions are held in the studio twice a day, every weekday with usually around six artists in each one. Some artists attend just one session a week while others come for more. The studio shares the ground floor of ARTHOUSE Unlimited Godalming HQ with its successful high street shop. This shared use of space is deliberate; it means that customers are able to enjoy seeing the artwork being created and, in turn, the artists are able to witness their work being sold. All the while, the integration and acceptance of people living with all types of disabilities is being developed in a meaningful way. The art sessions themselves are led by professional artists, who all instruct based on their areas of artistic expertise and passion. Each instructor has developed ways of working with individual groups in a relaxed, inclusive environment. All contributions are valued, with the mix in levels of physical dexterity and ability bringing a raw and unique edge to all work created.
The majority of ARTHOUSE Unlimited artists are residents of The Meath Epilepsy Charity, a charity offering housing and quality support services for people aged 19 and over living with severe epilepsy, learning and physical difficulties. Through provision of social enterprises such as ARTHOUSE Unlimited, as well as access to a wide range of other activities and courses, The Meath encourages all residents to live their lives as fully and as independently as possible.
With their high quality artwork and beautiful products, ARTHOUSE Unlimited create a platform of positive change in attitude towards people who are often marginalised. 100% of sales revenue from every product goes towards sustaining the social enterprise, helping it to grow and evolve and hopefully allow them to open studios across the UK.
