Hand woven mud cloth. Beautiful raw mud cloth fabric sourced from Mali. This mud cloth is a gorgeous combination of traditional and contemporary design. Turn it into curtains, cushions, and more.

Mud cloth, also known as 'Bògòlanfini' is a handmade Malian cotton fabric. It is one of Africa's most unusual and distinctive textiles.

Preserving cultural crafting techniques, our artisans spend hours upon hours weaving and painting Malian cotton with native fermented mud. The complex process is beyond impressive, as they even use mashed and boiled N'gallama tree leaves for that lovely yellow hue.

The mud itself is collected from riverbeds, and takes an entire year to prepare. Often our artisans decide to finish their work by removing some of the N'gallama tree dye, rendering it white.

Our co-founder, Bee Friedmann, sourced our Bogòlanfini cloth during a trip to Senegal from our friend Jean Pierre whom we have been working with for quite some time.

Jean Pierre continues a close partnership with artisans coming from Mali.
