A Vegan Guide to Margate | World Vegan Day 2022

Happy World Vegan day! Whether you're a life-long vegan or just dipping your toe into the plant-based waters, we're here to help you find some of the most delicious cruelty-free food that Margate has to offer! From the deliciously decadent to refreshingly healthy, you don't have to miss out on anything when eating a vegan diet. Our seaside home of Margate will really have you spoilt for choice. From the all-vegan Seaside Kitchen & Cake Parlour to the ‘Taste of Kent’ award winner (and vegan friendly) seafood bar Buoy & Oyster, there really is something to satisfy everyones tastes!

Beach Buoys, CT9 1DH

Looking for a vegan, modern take on the traditional British favourite, fish & chips? Beach Buoys is the latest venture by the owners of the award winning Buoy and Oyster restaurant. Situated right on the sea front, this trendy chippy is home to some of the most delicious vegan treats Margate has to offer! Having sampled most of their extensive menu, we can safely say that our firm favourite dishes are the battered miso tofu and beer battered pickles. Don't forget to order a side of their vegan tar tar sauce for dipping your chips in!

Curve Roasters, CT9 1JG

If you're someone who really cares about your coffee, you have to try Curve. They even roast their own beans right here in Margate! The coffee menu changes regularly and always includes two different choices of single origin espresso, one batch brew filter and two options of brewed-to-order filter coffees. To go alongside your delicious flat white, they also have a fantastic brunch menu with lots of plant-based, vegan options. We particularly love their chipotle roasted squash & refried beans tostadas with sweet corn salsa and lime mayo. They also have some delicious salads and grilled sandwiches on the menu as well as a range of cakes and pastries. Even your non-vegan friends will be picking off the plant-based menu!

International Wrap Artists, CT9 1XJ

Located right on the sea front, inside the beautiful Grade II listed restaurant Cinque Ports, International Wrap Artists serves up vibrant Mexican inspired food as well as Margate's best Margarita. They have a great range of vegan dishes and the staff are very knowledgable about veganism. We absolutely love 'The Snoop' which is a French taco made up of marinated banana blossom, pico de gallo, homemade vegan cheese sauce, brilliant black beans and pickled pink onions (amongst many other delicious toppings!) You also have to order their homemade vegan slaw on the side.

Mama Jinny Thai Kitchen, CT9 1EG

Mama Jinny grew up in North East Thailand, training to become a chef at the age of 16. At age 20 she opened her own restaurant and ran it for 7 years before moving to England. The menu is huge and is absolutely packed full of vegan options. Every dish is cooke with real passion, and that love for cooking definitely makes the food taste so much more magical! We recommend going with a group of friends so that you can try and share as many dishes as possible. We highly recommend their Tom Kha (coconut soup) and Som Tom (papaya salad) to start, followed by the best vegan Pad Thai we've ever tasted! Don't forget to finish with mango & sticky rice.

Giorgios, CT9 1UH

Perfect for a relaxed, delicious Italian dinner right in the heart of Margate, Giorgios has a separate dedicated vegan menu featuring some really comforting dishes. They offer vegan mozzarella, parmesan and halloumi in their dishes, so if you're a cheese lover you will be in for a real treat! Choose from brilliant bruschetta starters with toppings such as wild broccoli, spring onion, tahini & fresh chilli or keep things simple with delicious homemade bread and olives. The friendly staff are very attentive and will always try their best to accommodate for allergies and dietary requirements so be sure to let them know if you have any specific requests.

Other honourable mentions include Ty-8, an Asian-fusion restaurant serving a wide range of vegan mock meats including crispy chilli 'beef' and 'duck' pancakes that we can't get enough of. Gina's Old Kent Bakery have the best range of vegan-friendly pastries, breads and other treats plus their Chelsea buns are infamously huge and delicious! Located just around the corner from our store in Margate's vibrant Old Town, Ralphs is home to the best pizza you will (probably) ever eat plus their whole menu is vegetarian and the majority can be made vegan.
