We recently sat down with one of our fantastic team members, Irene. Irene is our woman on the ground in Kenya. Head of Production & Quality Control Kenya, she has been part of our team since 2015. Irene works closely with our jewellery makers and is involved in the whole production process from delivering our designs to the artisans to quality control and packing and shipping the items back to us. We simply couldn't do it without her! We wanted to chat more to Irene about what it is like to work for Artisans & Adventurers as well as introduce her to you, our customers! Here's what she had to say...
Can you tell us in your own words what your role is with Artisans & Adventurers?
My role with Artisans & Adventures is;
- As and when the UK office has an order to place, I assist them in sending the orders to the different Artisans locally.
- Undertaking local logistics of the order once it is sent by following up on the work progress to the finalised products.
- Performing product quality checking on the finished products.
- Packaging the finished products for dispatch to UK.
What do you most enjoy about your work?
As the orders are placed when there is a need, I am able to plan the work so it does not affect my other schedules. The work does not tie me down as my role is more of local logistics. I enjoy the contribution I make to help achieve the goals that are set with every order that comes.
Is it hard working with people in another country?
When you know what is expected of you this makes it easy. Effective communication plays a vital role as well as being ready and willing to learn.
What has been your favourite memory of working with Amy & Bee?
The favourite memory and one that I value so much is the way God brought them into my life. I was at a crossroad not knowing what the future had in store for me while God had it all planned out. We connected at our first meeting and this made working with Amy & Bee very enjoyable. They are a lovely team!
What do you find most difficult about your work?
Having to deal with the time given for production and getting the Artisans to keep to the deadline. Also, getting the Artisans to produce quality products so as to avoid a repeat process
Do our artisans that you work with enjoy knowing their products are sold to people all around the world?
Very. The fact that they have made products that are sold and valued all over the world gives them the motivation to excel in what they do.
What is your favourite product that you have helped with?
It is not easy to come up with a favourite product because all the products are unique and have their own beauty. I love the Signature Kenyan Collection because of the combination of matching the Ring, Earrings and Necklace which can be worn on any occasion.
