Indian Block Printed Textiles | Meet Srini & His Team

Bold & beautiful, our range of Indian Block Printed Textiles are made entirely by hand in Salem in Southern India by Srini and his team. Founded in 1978, Srini has a passion for ethical and sustainable design. The artisans specialise in traditional woven fabrics. Our range of quilts, pillow cases, pouches and eye masks are all block printed by hand in prints designed by us. Firstly, our Head of Design, Amy, illustrates the designs by hand. Wooden blocks are then carved based on Amy's original design. Each colour of the design must be applied in different layers, with different blocks. Each piece is then hand block printed using these traditional wooden blocks and natural dyes before being stitched using traditional Kantha methods by Srini and his team.

Srini is incredibly proud of the workshop's commitments to creating a truly ethical production line. The workshop has numerous sustainability accreditations including being GOTS certified, an internationally recognised organic textile standard. They are also an established SA8000 certified manufacturer and conform to the highest standards of employee welfare and environmental policies. Some other certifications they have been awarded are NABL, ISO 14001, OekoTex 100 Class, and they are registered with the Ethical Fashion Forum. Srini also encourages the concept of 'zero-cost' farming by providing seeds to farmers and training them to use various bio-manures, bio-pesticides and composting methods. This ensures a high-quality, certified organic product that is accessible to farmers, without huge upfront costs.

Committed to the welfare of his employees, Srini's workshop is enrolled in many employee support schemes, including housing facilities, education and healthcare. Personal employee development programmes such as seminars and training is also available to enrich the lives of the artisans. Employees also have access to a school for their children where they can participate in numerous activities including sporting events. They also support employees internally with grievance services amongst many other benefits to ensure all employees are happy, healthy and safe.
