Handmade in Kenya using recycled paper, wire and tin scraps, these creative cards are sure to put a smile on someone's face.
This card is 100% hand made by artisans from Kisumu Innovation Centre Kenya (KICK) who promote the use of sustainable resources in the Lake Victoria region of East Africa. The artisans recycle otherwise useless material into beautiful craft products, enabling them to earn a decent and fair wage in the process. KICK was recognised by UNEP and awarded the SEED initiative in 2011 for their efforts in environmental conservation.
This card is made from water hyacinth, a foreign, destructive and invasive water plant species that can engulf as much as 100 acres of Lake Victoria a week, trapping fishing boats in its thick web of roots. KICK works with local families to effectively harvest the plant and use it for furniture and paper items.
